Grinberg Method

Processes

Over the course of our lives, we learn to react to feelings as fear, stress or pain in certain ways; we usually do that to „control“ these feelings. Many of these feelings manifest themselves on a physical level: We tense our muscles, grind our teeth, take shallow breaths…. Those reaction patterns affect every part of ourselves; they form the way that we perceive situations, how we think, feel and behave. Often, we learn those patterns at an early age and repeat them again and again. They transform into automatic and unconscious patterns – and finally, they control us.

By this, we limit ourselves without consciously noticing, and loose sight of our freedoms, of parts of who we are, who we could be, who we have been.
We become hard, stressed out, are under constant pressure, or we find ourselves in the same situations again and again without knowing how we got there or how we can change the situation. In a process, we learn how to detect these patterns and how to dissolve them. We are able to react and decide more freely, we can spot the things that frighten us, what we want, the direction we want to go, what’s important to us. We become more conscious, aware and attentive.

The aim of a process is to not automatically get stuck with the same behavioural patterns anymore – and therefore not suffer from the same complaints and have them treated again and again, but to become able to make the changes we desire for our lives on our own – as quickly as possible.

Some reasons to start a process could be:

  • panic, (exam) anxiety
  • lack of energy
  • feeling that „everything is grey“
  • restlessness, „racing thoughts “
  • feeling of „being stuck“
  • menstrual cramps
  • stomach ache/ abdominal pain
  • back pain
  • insomnia
  • headache
  • skin problems

Procedure

The first session begins with a conversation about the clients’ needs.
During the sessions, we learn together how the complaints and the automatic reaction patterns emerged, how the body keeps them, how they manifest in the body and how we can influence them. Each session will be tailored to your individual needs. I work with different forms of touching/physical contact, with breathing and use language to focus attention.

Process duration can vary. If sessions focus on a specific physical symptom, usually, the symptoms should get significantly better within 6 to 8 sessions. Often those symptoms can be changed quickly and sustainably – pains are resolved, the body can be at rest, we gain more energy and well-being. Each session lasts an hour and costs 80 €.

Annas Process

When Anna gets home in the evening, she’s often exhausted, has headaches and just wants to rest. During her Grinberg process, we work on how Anna tenses her neck, how the tense neck leads to the headache, how her breathing changes in those moments and Anna gets tired. She observes her reactions and gets to know them and becomes more conscious about when she reacts that way (e.g. when she is asked to do „just one more thing“ and says yes even though she wants to say no). She furthermore learns how she can influence these reaction patterns, how she breathes more freely, stays relaxed, is able to make more conscious decisions. Anna can learn how to go home without a headache in the evening and how to be full of energy after work.
If Anna wants to take a deeper look, we can explore together where she learned these reactions; for example, where a basic feeling of “if-I´m-not-doing-it-nobody-will” comes from. We explore how she is dealing with her needs, which expectations to her surrounding she developed… By this, she can also learn to perceive more the here and now, check on her expectations and learn a new way of dealing with her feelings and needs. For example, she perceives more the possibilities in her environment to get help, she communicates more, she allows for more closeness…
She also learns which qualities she has developed; for example, how she is able to maintain an overview over situations – she learns to value her qualities more and use them in a helpful way for herself.
The process can help her to have a more fulfilled, aware life.

Annas Prozess
